Respiratory problems are very common among horses. In this stage many horses become over-sensitive to dust. This is especially applicable to dust, mould and bacteria found in hay and straw.
Since dust plays a key role this problem, it is of crucial importance to minimise the horse’s contact with dust that comes from straw and hay. The straw in the box should be replaced by wood shavings, because straw could also contain dust, mould and mites that bring on the allergy. The horse should no longer be fed dry hay. Hartog Gras-mix or Hartog Lucerne-mix should replace this. These products are dried briefly but under high temperatures, which rid them of all bacteria, dust, mould and mites.
In addition, it is very important to ventilate the stable properly.
