Compact Grass.
The bale weighs around 20 kg and measures 50 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm (compared to a bale of hay which measures 110 cm x 50 cm x 40 cm), which cuts on the space you need for storage. Horses are grazers by nature. Consumption in pastures consists of 100% roughage. The entire day the horse nibbles and eats grass. That means that the gastrointestinal tract gets a continuous flow of fibre-rich food that it has to digest. In the digestive system of horses fibre is broken down in the caecum (blind intestine) and the big intestine. Fibre also stimulates intestinal movements, which is vital for optimal digestion. This is why roughage is the most important component of feed rations for horses.
Hartog Feed box
A special feed box is available for dispensing Hartog Compact Grass feed.
The Hartog Feed box consists of an anti-spill edge that prevents loss of food. Approximately half a bale of Hartog Compact Grass feed can fit into such a container.
The Hartog Feed box is equipped with a metal grate that rests on the feed and ensures a slow intake of roughage. The horse is unable to take large bites at the same time and this limits the intake to maximum one kilogram per hour. Grazing in the meadow is imitated in the stable.
The horse can eat all day. This creates a natural environment and prevents both behavioural and digestive disorders.
This Hartog Feed box can be mounted with screws in the stable or can hang on the outside of the stable door at the height of a regular feeding trough (1.00- 1.20 m).
The Hartog Feed box can also be used for concentrates and of course for Lucerne-mix. If concentrates is mixed with Compact Grass or Lucerne-mix, the horses will consume it far slower, which also ensures a better digestion of the concentrates.
Composition
For producing Hartog Compact Grass we use a special grass mix produced by growers that we monitor. The product is therefore free of weeds and ragwort.
Feeding advice
To replace or combine with your current roughage; Hartog Compact Grass also combines excellently with Hartog Lucerne-mix.
To meet the roughage requirements of your horse, you need to feed 1.5 kg of roughage daily per 100 kg of the horse’s weight. Due to the high nutritional value of this product compared to hay or grass silage, you can reduce the concentrates that you give your horse.
Packing
Bales of 20 kgIn addition to Hartog Compact Grass we supply the same grass in bales of approx. 400 / 500 kg for the bulk consumer.
